Age Group: 60's and Up
This age group is beginning to notice changes in both the type of eyeglasses they need(bifocals, reading glasses, etc) as well as the quality of their vision with correction. The reason for this is the natural hardening of the human lens, which is actually the early stages of cataract formation. No one is immune from cataracts. It is a natural aging phenomenon. The human lens becomes more rigid with age and also yellows very gradually over time. These changes are slow to develop, so often go unnoticed for years, but gradually decrease the quality of vision. The yellowing of the lens causes a reduction of light into the eye and the feeling of a need for more light, especially in a reading situation.
This group benefits from a comprehensive eye examination and we will review the digital images with you and actually show you the progressive changes to your lens that you are experiencing. We will follow the progression of yellowing and when the symptoms are significant enough we will replace your human lens with a new intraocular lens (IOL) and your symptoms will greatly improve and the cataract will never come back! Procedures most likely recommended for this age group are LASIK, PRK, Refractive Lens Exchange and Cataract Surgery.
