To be able to wake up and see the clock in my room is still astonishing to me daily. I would also like to thank you for how comfortable you and your whole staff made me feel throughout the process.
- Megan, Patient
My father was an Ophthalmologist (Cataract Eye Surgeon) and obviously, I followed in his footsteps. I remember hearing about his cataract procedures in the 1970's, with patients staying in the hospital for one week after cataract surgery, with sand bags surrounding their head so they couldn't move. What a difference today!
I joke that a cataract patient hardly has time to get out of the car before the surgery is over. Cataract surgery has experienced the technological revolution we have seen in so many facets of our lives. These advancements are seen not only in the surgical procedure itself, but in the intraocular lens implants we put in the eye once the cataract is removed. The surgery is now an outpatient procedure, performed under brief twilight sedation, and takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. The IOL that is placed in the eye often has the ability to improve the distance vision, as well as intermediate and near vision too. I find it ironic that many of my 60 year-old patients, with minimally early cataracts, observe their mother or father undergo cataract surgery, and afterward their parents are seeing better than they are. I have hundreds of patients who are hoping their early cataracts worsen, so they can have surgery and see as well as their parents!
The process of eye examination and IOL calculation is an important one, and one in which we devote a lot of time and patient education. We will help you decide which IOL suits your lifestyle the best and then tailor the surgery to fit all of your visual needs. The Kameen Eye motto of "Your Vision For a Lifetime" applies to cataract surgery and Lasik surgery, and means that we will design a vision plan for your lifetime, not just for the moment.
We will be hosting a Spring Renewal seminar in April and May to give you the opportunity to come enjoy food, wine, the chance to chat with doctors, and take advantage of some great discounts. Limited space, so call today to reserve your spot!
